Link Building / Link Popularity

Quantity more than quality is more often than not the benchmark which SEOs set for themselves while aiming for the top ranks on search engines. This precedence of quantity often adversely affects the ranking of the website, but because this activity is performed on purpose, people end up concentrating on other factors to dig out the source of the problem. Among many things which should be considered while opting for a website to link with, the theme of the website remains a very very important issue. Even if you are linking with a website with a great page rank, it would have not that good a bearing on your website if it does not have the same theme as your website does.

There are very few SEOs out there who actually concentrate on this important aspect and conduct their SEO process in such a manner. Here is a list of the Complete Don’t Do’s that you should always be looking for in a website you look to link with:-

1. Ads and Just Ads

If Ads is all your website has to offer, then I might as well look elsewhere. When it comes to linking my website, topping my list of priorities would be relevancy of the website. If ads is all I’m looking for then I’d prefer logging on to Google or Yahoo or Bing to get all that and more. But in case of the linked website, I’d prefer a website where I don’t have to minimize bouncing banner ads before I can read the content on the page. I would never want to lose valuable visitors due to the stupid showcase on another linked website.

Golden rule is - Ditch some ads and get more links! If not, then there are many other willing SEOs out there who would readily want to link-up with your website.

2. What was that again? Bad writing & grammar

The most irritating thing to find on a website after stupid banner ads is bad language and grammar. One doesn’t have to be an award winning novelist to write a in simple and understandable manner. Some websites just go on and on with their stories trying to fix in as many keywords as they until they run out of word. But this is a really stupid exercise. Write what matter and what is relevant because that is what the users want to see and read. If you are bad with spellings and are lazy enough to even hit the Spell Checker button, then I surely feel bad for you.

If you don’t like writing, hire someone to do it for you! Try E2 Solutions if you want to see some examples…

3. The irritating salesman

Create some good value for your website and refrain from selling absolutely anything and everything. Incessant promotion of your goods or services is highly disliked by visitors. Keeping this in mind, try to be as subtle as possible while pitching your brand or service.
Don’t reduce your website or blog to just a lengthy sales pitch which would provide almost minimal information and knowledge to your readers or viewers. Once you have chosen this track, then you can very well kiss your customers goodbye.

4. Link greed

Don’t write just for the heck of it. If you ain’t receiving any outbound links from your blog posts then there surely is something wrong with what you write or how you go about promoting it. Either ways it will surely get me disinterested in your blog and I would move on to the next one that does a better job.

Another thing that I hate about blogs is the automatic Nofollow that is attached to almost everything on the blog. Websites that automatically nofollow all outbound links are even worse. You don’t show me love, nor would I.

5. The mediocre website

Don’t brag about something you can’t do. The same goes about your website. If you can’t live upto the hype you create around yourself then just stop doing it. If visiting your website makes one wonder why he/she landed there in the first place, then a serious revamp is needed. Example when the SERPS of the topic of your page contain image results (like so), your page should contain images. End of conversation.
