Tape is so versatile it has hundreds of different uses. We have compiled the top 30 useful techniques for using tape in and around the home. Use them for the following reasons:

CLEANING

1. Removing lint or hairs from clothing. Tape will act as a lint roller when stuck to clothing.

2. Removing dust from keyboards. Fold a piece of tape in half lengthways and drag between keys.

3. Removing dust from blinds.

4. Removing crumbs from furniture or clothing. Crumbs will easily stick to tape.

5. Removing cobwebs from ceilings. Attach tape sticky-side out to a pipe or broom handle and remove out-of-reach cobwebs without having to balance on furniture.

6. Remove lipstick from silk. Simple and effective.

7. Clean your nail file.

8. Remove animal hairs.

9. Catch flies.Just hang a piece of tape from the ceiling.

10. Protect shelving. Use taped protective film to keep shelving and cupboards clean.



DIY

1. Protecting glass. Just tape along the edges of a frame.

2. Protecting skirting boards. Use a low-tack tape to avoid removing its wood coating.

3. Protecting fixtures and fittings. Similarly, taping around light switches, door handles and plug sockets will prevent paint splashes when using paint roller. Remove the tape and switch to a smaller brush to complete this more detailed work.

4. Holding glue in place. Hold glue joins together while they are still wet by using tape.

5. Holding glass in place. Broken windows can be kept whole with tape until they can be fixed.

6. Preventing paint cracks. Tape a small cross to mark where you are going to drill. Drill through the centre of the cross and paint cracks will be prevented.

7. Preventing wood splinters. Tape either side of where you are going to saw to avoid splintering.

8. Keep screws safe. Tape small labelled clear food bags in the garage to prevent screws, nuts and bolts from getting lost.

9. Fix a radio antennae.

10. Prevent tripping hazards. Tape is a great way to stick down wires and carpet edges.

HANDY

1. Tennis racket cushion. Tape is used around tennis racket handles to create a softer handle which is easier to grip.

2. Fixing crayons. Taping crayons will make them easier to hold for children, as well as preventing or fixing breakages.

3. Sealing.

4. Memos. Tape turns any piece of paper into a sticky note. A low tack protecting tape can be used to tape these onto walls, computer monitors, fridges, telephones, keyboards or cabinets.

5. Creating a temporary hem on trousers. Ideal before sewing if you have no pins.

6. Preventing locks from freezing. Car locks which are taped over will not freeze.

7. Fixing frayed laces. Tape the end of laces for an aglet which is unnoticeably home made.

8. Grips for slippy shoes. Attach double-sided tape to the underneath of shoes for extra grip.

9. Shopping list holder.Tape the shopping list to the trolley to keep your hands free when shopping

10. Code your keys. Use coloured tapes to make your main keys stand out.
