Barcelona is a city which since the 1992 Olympics and the huge investment the city received, a very popular holiday destination, especially for the short break holiday and vacation market. Below we look at 10 reasons why Barcelona is worth visiting.
1. Barcelona has great weather with eight to nine months of sunshine and this means that even though you cannot of course have any guarantees of good weather on your trip, there is a reasonable chance of good weather.
2. Barcelona is on the coast and there are miles of beaches of beaches going all the way down to Sitges and stretching also well to the North. The main beach of Barcelona is split into five or so smaller beaches and each open attracts a slightly different crowd.
3. FC Barcelona are one of the top clubs in the world and by going to Barcelona you can try and attend one of FC Barcelona's home games, whether it be in the league, cup or Champions league. Barcelona have many great players including Messi, Ronaldinho and Thiery Henry and seeing these players is a treat. Day tours of the Nou Camp are also very worthwhile.
4. Tapas. If you are a fan of tapas then you might want to enjoy some of the tapas in bars in the city of Barcelona.
5. Gaudi - Barcelona is famous for its Gaudi buildings and La Sagrada Familia is one place which is well worth visiting. This church has already taken over 100 years to build and is estimate to need another 100 years for completion. Seeing some of the work of the nineteenth century architect is well worth it if you get the chance.
6. The harbour front. The marina area is a great area to hang out near the centre of Barcelona and the aquarium, 3D cinema and restaurants are worth a visit.
7. The chance to try adventure sports - Barcelona is a great place to try events such as hot air ballooning, kayaking and dragon boat racing, particularly with the ideal climate to try these types of events.
8. The bars - can be worth visiting and great places to meet locals and enjoy a Spanish beer.
9. Flamenco - There is an annual Flamenco festival in Barcelona every summer and this can be a fun festival to attend if you are able to make it.
10. Restaurants - The restaurants of Barcelona attract many people and there are so many restaurants that you will have a large choice and are bound to find some which are to your liking.
