So you have always wanted to see the magnificent Caribbean islands. You may be planning your vacation or about to escape from work and start your dream get-a-way. Is there a better way to see the Caribbean islands than sailing across the seas similar to the pirates of old ? Sail in to a port just before or after sunrise, eat a solid breakfast, head ashore, have some fun and sail away with your booty around sunset.

Since 2004, my wife and I have cruised the Caribbean several times and enjoyed each cruise tremendously. We are already planning our next cruise vacation, perhaps the Mediterranean. We cannot forget the fresh ocean breeze blowing through our open balcony door, the wonderful panorama of blues, turquoise, greens and mauves and shades in between of the waters flowing in several different currents like rivers, as well as the vast sweep of sky from horizon to horizon matched only by the immense sea in all directions. Only the dissipating wake of our passage linking us to the distant horizon.

Our cruise adventures have seen us ashore in Aruba, St. Thomas, Bahamas, Caymans, Dominica, Puerto Rico, Belize, Honduras, Jamaica, Antigua, Dominica, Turks & Caicos, Cozumel, and Barbados. Barbados is by far our favourite.
Hurricanes make for interesting dinner conversations. In the year of Hurricane Ivan we were diverted to Antigua en route to Barbados. This year Hurricane Maria was turning north as we sailed for St Thomas in the Virgin Islands. We were never in any danger from the hurricanes but it can make sailing a bit more interesting.

Many people comment about putting on weight on a cruise. We eat heartily on cruises and make healthy choices from the available menus. I personally toss in a piece of cheesecake and delicious chocolate cake at times. I just don’t worry about it.

We do plenty of walking aboard to help burn some of those calories, we spend time browsing in the on board duty free shops, take part in fun activities and dancing after dinner. On shore, we walk some more and engage in shore excursions like bicycle tours in Half Moon Cay Bahamas, river rafting in Dominica, snorkelling in Cozumel or swimming with the turtles in Grand Cayman.

One thing we pack is our healthy weight loss guide which guides us in making healthy choices and decisions in our diet and exercises; we just don’t leave home without it. Physical exercise is inherent in our walking, shopping, browsing places and things of interest, shore excursions and night life entertainment choices. I love the fun ships because they are as the name states fun; they have lots of activities and relaxation all depending on what you want.

You too can incorporate healthy choices, weight control and fun, lots of fun in your vacation planning.

There is nothing like escaping on your vacation and after a flight and commute to the cruise terminal, board your ship, throw open your balcony door and let all of your stress melt away over a long cool drink. It’s all the therapy I need.

See you on a cruise someday! Somewhere!
